Race of champions winners add to Super Nationals history

BOONE, Iowa – Four hometown heroes will be among the drivers honored on the final day of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.

Winners of race of champions events take their turn in victory lane on Championship Day Saturday, Sept. 8 at Boone Speedway.

Top drivers at local tracks will fill starting fields for the 30th annual Harris Auto Racing Modified Race of Champions, the 18th annual Sunoco Stock Car Race of Champions, and 10th annual Stephenville Starter Hobby Stock Race of Champions and BSB Manufacturing Northern SportMod Race of Champions.

“The original idea behind Super Nationals was giving drivers who competed weekly at IMCA tracks the opportunity to showcase their talents. That’s been the intent as we’ve added race of champions events over the years,” observed IMCA President Brett Root, “and many of the best weekly racers in our history have won these events.”

“Look at qualifying heats and you’ll see drivers from coast to coast and border to border,” he added. “Winning a race of champions at Super Nationals is a career highlight type of accomplishment for any driver.”

Track champions or point leaders competing at Super Nationals, or the runner-up, are race of champions qualifying eligible. So, too, are former race winners and Super Nationals, national and regional champions.

Hobby Stock and SportMod RoC qualifying is Tuesday, Sept. 4. Modified and Stock Car qualifying is Thursday, Sept. 6.

“We take a lot of pride in our history and the Harris Race of Champions is one of the best examples,” Root said. “The list of winners reads like a who’s who of the IMCA Modified division.”

IMCA Late Models following the Deery Brothers Summer Series headline the opening night card on Monday, Sept. 3, along with Hobby Stock and SportMod qualifying.

The complete Sport Compact program is on tap for Sept. 4. Modified and Stock Car qualifying starts Sept. 5.

Friday’s card features the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.

Last-chance qualifying, races of champions and Modified, Stock Car, Hobby Stock and SportMod features bring the 36th Super Nationals to a close on Saturday.

With bonuses, potential winner’s shares of championship events are $7,000 for the Modifieds, $3,500 for the Late Models and Stock Cars, $2,250 for the SportMods, $1,850 for the Hobby Stocks and $500 for the Sport Compacts.

Drivers in all divisions except the Late Models competing at Super Nationals must pre-register online. That form can be found at www.imca.com and www.raceboone.com under the Super Nationals menu and drivers who do not already have a MyRacePass account can create one when they go to that link.

Two hundred and ten drivers have already completed the early entry process.

In addition to the discounted entry fee, pre-registered drivers become eligible to compete in the Sept. 1 Prelude at Boone.

That event, as well as the entire week of Super Nationals, will be broadcast by IMCA.TV.
