Pierce Dominates Hawkeye 50 at Boone Speedway

For the 3rd straight year Boone Speedway hosted the World of Outlaws CASE Late Model Series and the Hawkeye 50 with the IMCA Stock Cars alongside. Austin Meiners took the Stock Car win and Bobby Pierce repeated his 2021 performance to take the big trophy and $15,000 for his efforts.
IMCA Stock Cars were the first feature to run with Johnathon Logue and Austin Meiners on the front row. Meiners wasted no time darting out to the lead as Austin Bouzek and Logue put on a show for second place. 3 caution flags slowed the field, but each time it was Meiners with a stranglehold on the lead. 13th starting David Smith made it to the top 4 at the halfway mark, and the battle for the runner up spot was on as Meiners drove away from the field to take the $1000 win. Logue came out with second as Smith finished third, Bouzek fourth and Cody Gustoff fifth.
Next up was the one everyone came to see, the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models. Dennis Erb Jr and Bobby Pierce paced the field from the front row and it was Pierce muscling his way around the top to lead lap one. Former IMCA Modified Supernationals winner Ricky Thornton Jr, fresh off his win at the Prairie Dirt Classic, started his march to the front as he made it to 3rd on lap 12. 2nd place was right around the corner, but a quick tangle with a lapped car dropped him back to 3rd for a few laps, slowing his momentum. Pierce continued to lead with Thornton Jr over 2 seconds back when the 21RT finally secured 2nd on lap 21. As the laps ticked off Thornton Jr closed the gap down to 3 tenths of a second after Pierce nearly drove off the track in turn 2, but a yellow for Todd Cooney with a shredded right rear tire erased any lead and set the front runners up for an 11 lap dash to the finish. Thornton Jr kept it close until lap 45 when Pierce was able to hit his marks and slowly open the gap as he went on to the win. Thornton Jr finished second with Tanner English third, Chris Madden fourth and Erb Jr fifth.
Regular weekly racing continues this Saturday night, August 5, with IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, Northern SportMods, Hobby Stocks, Mod Lites and Sport Compacts in action. Pits open at 4:30, Grandstands at 5:30, Hot Laps at 6, and racing at 7.
